Dan Fitzgerald
Dan joins Ransack Dance company as a member of our music education team this year! He will team lead our weekly ‘Ransack Music Club’ sessions and music workshops as part of our ‘Ransack Your Stories Performing Arts Summer School’ at YMa, Pontypridd this year!
Alongside working with Ransack, Dan is the founder of community music organisation ‘RecRock’. Starting in 2013 - Dan left a position in community development to follow his passion for music, by setting up the company with childhood friend Jack, at Welsh ICE. The company quickly started to develop by working with partners such as Hafal, People First, Princes Trust, United Welsh and other local community organisations to deliver engaging workshops for anyone who wants to get involved.
In addition to his own projects with ‘RecRock’ such as inclusive music projects through funding streams such as RDP, Lottery Community Fund and EU funded projects such as Active Inclusion to improve employability and literacy, Dan also partners other organisations to deliver exciting inclusive music projects. This includes partnering local councils to deliver 16-25 engagement such as ‘Fortitude Through Music’ in RCT and the Anthem funded ‘Blackwood Music Project’ which works with 12-18 year olds to develop skills in bands.
As a musician himself - Dan’s musical experience focuses on guitar playing, having played in bands all over the country for the past 15 years. These bands include The Bandaoke Show (Karaoke with a band), Slipped Disco (9 piece disco band), The Pandas, Juno Acoustic Duo, Maditronique, N’famady Kouyate and many more. Dan’s musical adventures have taken him to Maida Vale, many festivals including Green Man and even national TV appearances.
We look forward to welcoming Dan into the Ransack team this year and listening to the compositions our participants create and play with him!
